Christmas Eve 2008

It was a wonderful night with an Italian dinner menu and a few good cooks in the kitchen! Lucky for me I wasn't one of them. We had a house full (Teddy, my immediate family, Bette and Charlie, JoAnn, ToniAnn, Jesse and Monty) and it was a comfortable family night that went just as planned...isn't that nice! Christmas morning, however, my whole tree fell completely on top of Maggie. This beautiful ornament, given to me by Sheri (I know you didn't make it or bake it but I love it) was the culprit. Emma even said,"if you put that on the tree, it will fall over!" Sure enough, the minute I hung it, the tree went over. I had to redecorate the whole thing because we were having a dinner party on New Year's Eve.

I usually choose a fraser fir tree but this year went out on a limb.... and went with the douglas fir (above). The needles are longer and softer than the fraser, but I usually get a fraser to hold my heavier ornaments like the adorable snow babies Michelle made a few years ago for the girls. It was a beautiful shape except for the stem at the base of the tree. It actually turned at a 90 degree angle right at the bottom, making for some tricky maneuvering in the tree stand. That's probably the reason it fell. It actually came out better after the second phase of decorating! This was the tree Christmas morning (right)....see the coordinating wrapping paper :) girls?

It was a fun Christmas across the miles with Sheri and Michelle as we put into play our new "make it or bake it" theme. Sheri made some of her famous specialties that I love and Michelle sent some home canned yummy treats like rasberry jam and some spirits. But there will always be a hole in our hearts without our mom there to share it with us and our children. We miss you so much Mommy. xo

A Giant Victory!

Our Giants really keep us on our toes....they always have. The awesome win Sunday night prompted me to finally post the trip to see Giants play Seattle with JoAnn and her sister SueAnn. (October 5th) We always have fun with the Doceti girls at the Met games and the fun continued at Giants Stadium. We had decent weather after a huge thunder and rain storm on the way there....which had me doubting the day. (yes me) Charlie fired up the grill for breakfast upon arrival with homefries, steak and eggs accompanied by screwdrivers, followed by lunch a few hours later of sausage and peppers. It was a fun game and due to memory loss I'll have to come back when Charlie wakes up and post the score. Ha, he didn't know for sure! But we killed them....a "W" whatever the score.

Thyroidectomy

After photo - just thought I'd share my new war wound....not too bad, right? I consider myself very lucky to be able to go to such awesome doctors and hospitals in NYC...Synthroid is a daily regimen for me now and Thank God - I feel fine! I still think a diamond necklace might take some of the attention away from the scar, don't you Charlie?

Girls Got Game

Growing up in Newburgh, NY, we did not have field hockey at my high school, NFA. So this was a whole new learning experience for me on Long Island, where field hockey is big business....it's girls in skirts that are trying to kick some ass!!! I'm so proud of all three of my girls. They give sports their all and boy have they got game. It's a crazy schedule with Maggie and Emma playing defense on the JV team at Patchogue-Medford High School and Molly on the Varsity team (as goalie!) also at the High School. We're so lucky to have newly renovated turf field that is used for our home games.

I finally remembered to bring my camera to a game, and took these from the top row of the bleachers....my camera can really zoom. (click on pics for a great view) This one is of Maggie; she's the at the top of the pic. Most parents agree that it's hard to keep your mouth shut at games, especially when you want coach to put your kids in to play. But I'm learning to behave and not drink diet coke before gametime. Wouldn't want to do anything embarrassing, right girls?

The following pics are of Tara, Maggie and Emma's best friend. Her mother, Mary, unfortunately cannot remember her camera either. So these are for you Mary! Enjoy!

Can Ewe Rug Hook? I Can!!!

Andrea, you were right!

I admit it, I didn't think I would enjoy rug-hooking - at all! I decided to give it a try because my bff Andrea claimed I would fall in love with it! Well, I love it, really!! Half of the fun is going to Andrea's studio and having some girl time with a glass of wine. It's very relaxing and the wool colors are just beautiful. The room is like a wonderland of colors. I'm also signed up for her Rug-hooking class at Bayport-Bluepoint Library in late Oct. http://bprt.suffolk.lib.ny.us/.

Visit this link for Andrea's Ebay Store which gives detailed information about dyeing the wool and what she sells.

Full Circle - or Complete180

Well, it didn't take me long....after just one month of being an unemployed teacher, I made homemade cupcakes for my daughters' field hockey pasta party! I remember making cupcakes for their school birthday celebrations, 2nd grade may have been the last time. And I'm not even taking about just baked at home; I made them from scratch! I'll have to take a picture and post it on here.
